Zombies (released in North America as Zombies Ate My Neighbors) is a top-down run-and-gun action game developed by LucasArts and published by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. Controlling teenage heroes Zeke and Julie, players navigate 55 suburban and horror-themed levels to rescue eccentric neighbors while battling an army of classic B-movie monsters.
How to Play
Your objective in each level is to locate and rescue every surviving neighborโincluding cheerleaders, babies, tourists, and dogsโbefore enemy monsters reach them. Once all remaining neighbors are saved, a glowing door opens to take you to the next stage.
Controls
- Move: Arrow Keys
- Attack / Shoot: Z (SNES B button)
- Use Item: X (SNES A button)
- Cycle Weapon: A (SNES Y button)
- Cycle Item: S (SNES X button)
- Pause / Map: Enter (Start)
Gameplay Tips
- Protect Every Neighbor: Your total neighbor count carries over into subsequent levels. Losing neighbors early reduces your maximum target count and safety margin for later stages.
- Use Enemy Weaknesses: Holy water squirt guns excel against zombies and mummies, silverware melts werewolfs quickly, and monster potions turn you into a giant invincible brute for boss fights.
- Search the Environment: Blast through hedges, trash cans, and cabinets with explosive soda cans or bazookas to uncover hidden keys, first-aid kits, and extra ammunition.
