MSX Games Online – 669 Home Computer Classics
The MSX standard (1983) was a home computer format shared by Sony, Philips, Panasonic and others, huge in Japan, the Netherlands and Brazil, and the birthplace of Metal Gear. Konami treated it as a first-party platform: Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, Nemesis (Gradius), Salamander, Penguin Adventure, Vampire Killer, Knightmare and King’s Valley all appeared here, alongside Compile’s Aleste and a long tail of Japanese releases that never reached consoles. Past Play hosts 669 MSX and MSX2 games in the browser.
MSX games were written for a keyboard as much as a joystick, so many of them use letter keys or the space bar for actions – the controls panel on each game page lists what the original expected. The emulator boots the cartridge or disk image directly; there is no BASIC prompt to get past. Save states are available on every title, which is the only practical way to play the longer Konami adventures.
