Demon’s Crest is a 1994 gothic action-platformer developed by Capcom for the Super Nintendo. Starring Firebrand, the notorious red gargoyle from the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series, the game blends challenging side-scrolling combat with light RPG elements and non-linear exploration. Players must collect elemental crests scattered across a dark fantasy world to transform into different gargoyle forms, each granting unique abilities needed to access new areas and defeat varied bosses.
How to play
Use the arrow keys to move, S to attack with fire breath or your current crest’s projectile, and X to jump. Pressing X again while in the air allows Firebrand to hover horizontally, and you can cling to walls by jumping into them. The Enter key pauses the game, and Shift (or the pause menu) lets you switch between your equipped crests, spells, and potions.
Tips
- Master the hover ability early; maintaining your altitude and dodging enemy fire mid-air is essential for surviving boss fights.
- Revisit earlier levels after acquiring new crests. The Earth Crest can break statues blocking alternate paths, and the Air Crest allows for higher flight to reach hidden upgrades and health expansions.
