Zombies (better known as Zombies Ate My Neighbors outside Europe) is a classic 1994 run-and-gun action game for the SNES. You play as Zeke or Julie, battling through 55 levels inspired by B-movie horror tropes to rescue suburbanites from vampires, werewolves, aliens, and the undead using bizarre weapons like a squirt gun filled with holy water.
How to Play
The objective in each level is to rescue all surviving neighbors before the monsters get to them. Once everyone is saved, a door will appear to take you to the next stage. Navigate using the D-pad (Arrow keys), use your weapons and items with the face buttons (mapped to Z, X, A, S on your keyboard), and pause or check your radar with Start/Select (Enter/Shift).
Tips
- Use the Radar: Your radar is essential for locating neighbors quickly. Prioritize reaching them, as any neighbor killed by monsters stays dead in future levels until you earn extra neighbors via points.
- Save Heavy Firepower: Conserve powerful weapons like the bazooka for tough bosses (like the giant baby) or for blowing open cracked walls to find secret areas.
- Evade When Necessary: You don’t have to kill every enemy. Sometimes it’s better to use items like trampolines or potions to bypass large groups and focus on the rescue.
