Game description:

Shin Seikoku: La Wares is a 1995 turn-based role-playing game developed by J-Force and published by Yutaka for the Super Famicom (SNES). Adapted from the Japanese pen-and-paper RPG Wares Blade, it features a unique blend of medieval fantasy and mecha combat. Players follow a young bandit named Chiffon and princess Michelda as they uncover a conspiracy to revive ancient, massive mechs known as sacred Golems. The game is notable for its character designs by Kazuko Tadano and its dual-combat system, featuring traditional party battles during dungeon exploration and mech-based Golem combat during boss fights and overworld encounters.

How to Play

As a traditional turn-based RPG, your objective is to explore the Kitan Kingdom, navigate dungeons, and defeat enemies to stop the revival of the sacred Golems. Standard Super Nintendo controls apply: use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to move and navigate menus, A (X key) to confirm actions, and B (Z key) to cancel. Press X (S key) or Start (Enter) to open your menu to manage your party’s equipment and skills.

Tips

Pay close attention to the dual combat system. Standard party combat relies on your human characters’ stats and spells, while Golem combatโ€”used for overworld encounters and boss fightsโ€”requires managing your mech’s unique abilities. Keep your party well-rested and upgrade your Golem’s equipment whenever possible, as boss battles provide a significant spike in difficulty.
