Super Mario Kart is a kart racing game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992. It launched the Mario Kart series with eight playable characters — Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong Jr., and Koopa Troopa — each with distinct stats for speed, acceleration, and handling. All twenty tracks across the four cups use the SNES Mode 7 effect to rotate and scale the course floor, giving the game its distinctive tilted-road perspective.
How to Play
Grand Prix is the main mode: pick a character, choose a cup (Mushroom, Flower, Star, or Special), and race five tracks for placement points. Three speed classes — 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc — scale the difficulty. Battle Mode has two players competing to burst each other’s three balloons; Match Race is a head-to-head single-track duel.

Drive through a ? block to pick up an item, then use it to throw it forward or drop it behind as a trap. The power slide is the game’s core technique: hop just before a corner, hold the steering direction, and wait for the kart to flash — release at that moment for a speed burst out of the bend.
Tips
- Master power slides early. Chaining flash-bursts through every corner is the difference between winning and trailing on 100cc and above — get the timing down on the Mushroom Cup before moving up.
- Match your character to the track. Toad and Koopa Troopa have the best acceleration and handling for tight, technical cups. Bowser and Donkey Kong Jr. carry more raw top speed but demand precise lines on twisty layouts.
- Fire red shells when close. A red shell homes in on the driver directly ahead of you, but it can be deflected by walls and obstacles. Fire when nearly bumper-to-bumper rather than from several positions back.
