Street Racer (Europe) is a chaotic kart-style racing game brought to the Sega Genesis in 1995. Developed by Vivid Image, it provides a fast-paced, weapon-heavy alternative to traditional racers, featuring pseudo-3D tracks and a colourful cast of characters, each with their own unique special abilities. Beyond traditional circuit racing, the game stands out for its extra modes, including a frantic arena-style Rumble mode and a car-based Soccer mode.
How to play
Your goal is to cross the finish line first while surviving the attacks of your opponents. Use the D-pad to steer your vehicle, the A and B buttons to accelerate and brake, and the C button to activate your character’s special attacks when your meter is filled. In the browser, the D-pad is mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys, with A, B, and C mapped to Z, X, and C respectively.
Tips
- Learn each character’s unique attacks; characters have very different ranges and effects.
- In Soccer mode, focus on defending your goal and intercepting the ball rather than just chasing it blindly.
- Save your special attacks for tight corners or when you have a clear shot at the leader, rather than wasting them on straightaways.
