Game description:

Twin Hawk is a 1989 vertical-scrolling shooter for the Sega Genesis, developed by Toaplan and published by Taito. Originally released in arcades under the title Daisenpu, it puts you in control of a WWII-era fighter plane battling through waves of enemy aircraft, ground armour, and warships. The game’s signature twist is a formation of support planes that fly alongside you — they absorb incoming fire and can be launched into enemy clusters, giving the action a tactical layer beyond straight shooting and dodging.

How to Play

Fly with the arrow keys. X (Genesis B) fires your main guns — hold it for continuous auto-fire. S (A) deploys your formation planes toward enemies, where they deal damage and intercept bullets before breaking off. Z (C) triggers your special attack when the screen gets crowded. Press Enter to pause.

  • Arrow keys — move
  • X — shoot (hold for auto-fire)
  • S — deploy formation planes
  • Z — special attack
  • Enter — pause

Tips

  • Hold your formation planes in reserve for dense bullet patterns — they are worth more as an emergency absorb shield than as a constant attack.
  • Stay aggressive against ground targets: stopping to engage from a distance lets them saturate the lane with fire; a fast close-range pass clears them with less exposure.
  • Grab power-up drops early and consistently — an upgraded spread shot in the first two stages makes the mid-game far more forgiving.
