Game description:

Saturday Night Slam Masters is Capcom’s wrestling action game from 1993, originally developed for the CPS-1 arcade board and ported to the Sega Genesis that same year. Ten colourful grapplers make up the roster — most notably Mike Haggar, the pipe-swinging Mayor of Metro City from Capcom’s own Final Fight, making his wrestling debut here. Matches are settled by three-count pin, knockout, or ring-out, giving the game a rhythm distinct from a standard one-on-one fighter.

How to play

Move with the arrow keys. Walking into a standing opponent begins a grapple; press S, X, or Z (Genesis A, B, C buttons) to execute a throw or hold. Tap a direction twice to run, which opens up body tackles and diving attacks. To attempt a pin, walk onto a downed opponent and hold the grab button for the three-count. Press Enter to start or pause.

Tips

  • Go for the pin the instant a big throw lands — walk onto the fallen opponent immediately and press the grapple button before they recover.
  • Ring-outs are often faster than grinding for a pin: push your opponent into a corner near the ropes and use an outward throw to finish the match.
  • Running tackles (double-tap a direction) do solid damage and can stagger opponents, setting up the bigger throws that your wrestler specialises in.
