Splatterhouse 3 is a horror beat-em-up released for the Sega Genesis in 1993 by Namco, the third game in a series that started as a coin-op arcade cabinet. You play as Rick Taylor, wearing the supernatural Terror Mask that gives him superhuman strength, fighting room by room through his own monster-infested mansion to save his wife Jennifer and his son David before time runs out.
How to play
Each stage is a race. Move through connected rooms, defeat the demons blocking your path, and reach your family members before the stage clock expires â whether you save Jennifer and David, and in what order, determines which of the game’s multiple endings you see. A password system lets you resume from any stage you have cleared.
- Move: Arrow keys
- Attack: S (Genesis A button)
- Jump: X (Genesis B button)
- Heavy attack: Z (Genesis C button)
- Start / Pause: Enter
Tips
- Watch the stage timer above all else. Optional rooms can wait â if the clock is low, cut straight to Jennifer or David rather than fighting every enemy on the floor.
- The heavy attack (Z) knocks back groups and staggers larger enemies far better than the basic punch; lead with it whenever you are surrounded.
- Glowing power-up orbs trigger Rick’s beast transformation, a massive damage boost. Save one for the boss at the end of each stage rather than spending it on regular enemies.
