AeroFighters Assault is an arcade-style air combat shooter released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Developed by Paradigm Entertainment, it trades the 2D top-down perspective of the previous Aero Fighters arcade games for full 3D dogfighting. Players choose from a colorful cast of international pilots, each flying a unique fighter jet equipped with distinct special weapons, to take on a fictional global terrorist organization.
How to Play
The objective is to eliminate all enemy targets in each stage, culminating in massive aerial boss fights. In the browser, the default Nintendo 64 controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to pitch and steer your aircraft, the Z and X keys for your primary weapons and targeting, and Enter for Start. The C-buttons (typically mapped to the WASD or IJKL keys) are used to adjust thrust and roll.
Tips
- Learn the distinct advantages of each pilot; for instance, Spanky’s X-29 offers high maneuverability, while Hawk’s F-14 provides devastating heavy ordnance.
- Managing your special weapons is critical. Save your limited screen-clearing attacks for the boss encounters rather than wasting them on standard fighter escorts.
- Constantly adjust your speed during dogfights. Slowing down allows for tighter turns to get behind enemy fighters, while boosting helps evade incoming missile locks.
