Splatterhouse Part 3 is a horror-themed beat ’em up released for the Sega Genesis in 1993 by Namco. You once again take on the role of Rick Taylor, donning the supernatural Terror Mask to fight through a grotesquely mutated mansion. Unlike the linear stages of previous entries, this sequel introduces non-linear exploration with a map system and branching rooms. Your primary objective is to rescue Rick’s family before the in-game timer runs out, with your speed directly affecting which of the multiple endings you receive.
How to Play
Navigate the mansion’s bloody halls by clearing rooms of monsters to unlock doors to the next area. In the browser, use the Arrow keys to move, and standard Sega Genesis keys (typically Z, X, C or A, S, D) to attack, jump, and use your special move. Collecting Eldritch Orbs dropped by enemies fills your Power Meter. When full, you can transform into the hulking Mutant Rick, gaining devastating new attacks and a powerful screen-clearing ability.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the map screen between rooms to plot the shortest route to your objective; wasting time exploring unnecessary rooms will cost you the good ending.
- The spinning jump kick is excellent for crowd control and keeping aggressive enemies at a distance.
- Save your Mutant Rick transformation for boss encounters or rooms where you are completely overwhelmed, as your power drains quickly.
