Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is a horror-comedy action platformer published by Namco for the Famicom in 1989. A chibi reimagining of the original Splatterhouse arcade game, it follows Rick — wearing the iconic Terror Mask — through a series of side-scrolling stages packed with ghosts, mummies, and monsters. The super-deformed art style plays the franchise’s horror for laughs, but the platforming underneath is earnest and tight.
How to play
Move Rick with the arrow keys. Z attacks and X jumps; press Enter to start. Defeating enemies sometimes drops weapons — a sword, axe, or club — which Rick picks up and swings with Z. Each stage ends with a boss encounter; learn its attack pattern, close the distance when there is an opening, and keep the pressure up.
Tips
- Weapons deal significantly more damage than bare fists. Hold onto them as long as possible and grab new ones whenever enemies drop them.
- Most bosses are large and telegraph their swings. Dodge backward on the wind-up, then move back in during the recovery.
- Lives are finite and stages are unforgiving. Move in short bursts, clear enemies before advancing, and resist the urge to rush ahead.
