Math Blaster: Episode One is a 1993 educational game developed and published by Davidson & Associates for the Sega Genesis. Built around arithmetic practice for young players, the game casts you as Blasternaut on a mission to rescue his robot dog Spot from the Trash Monster â advancing through a set of math-based mini-game activities to reach him.
How to Play
The game cycles through several activity types: sorting numbered canisters into the correct bins, completing equations by selecting the missing value, and shooting the right answer from a scrolling row of numbers before time runs out. From the main menu you set the number operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) and difficulty tier, so the challenge can be tuned to the player’s grade level.
Keyboard controls: Arrow keys to move and navigate; S = Genesis A (confirm/action); X = Genesis B; Z = Genesis C; Enter = Start.
Tips
- Set the difficulty and operation type from the main menu before starting â matching the level to the player keeps the math engaging without becoming overwhelming.
- In the shooting activity, scan all visible answers before firing. A wrong shot costs points, so a quick look first pays off.
- Individual activities are replayable on their own, so a player who needs extra practice on multiplication can return to that activity without replaying everything.
