Published by Bandai in 1989, Monster Party is a notoriously bizarre action platformer for the NES. You play as Mark, an ordinary kid armed with a baseball bat, who teams up with a gargoyle named Bert to fight through a surreal horror-themed world filled with unusual enemies and strange bosses.
How to play
Your goal is to navigate through each level and defeat multiple bosses to collect the keys needed to reach the exit. Mark attacks with his bat, while collecting pills dropped by enemies temporarily transforms him into Bert, allowing for flight and ranged attacks. Move with the arrow keys, use Z to swing your bat or shoot, X to jump, and Enter to pause.
Tips
- Mark’s baseball bat can reflect many enemy projectiles back at them, which is a safe way to deal with ranged attackers.
- The Bert transformation is very powerful; try to time your pill pickups so you can use his flight and ranged shots against difficult bosses.
- You must defeat every boss in a level to earn the key for the exit door, so explore thoroughly to find all the boss rooms.
