Game description:

The Quest of Ki is a classic 1988 puzzle-platformer developed by Namco for the NES (Famicom), serving as a direct prequel to the arcade hit The Tower of Druaga. This version features the English translation patch by Zynk Oxhyde. Players control the priestess Ki as she embarks on a journey to scale the 60 floors of a perilous tower to retrieve the stolen Blue Crystal Rod. Unlike traditional platformers, Ki has no offensive attacks; instead, the gameplay is entirely focused on mastering her unique momentum-based movement and hovering abilities to outmaneuver enemies and navigate complex, maze-like stages.

How to Play

The objective is to guide Ki to the exit door on each of the tower’s 60 floors before the timer runs out. Since she cannot fight, you must use her jumping and dashing skills to avoid slimes, ghosts, and spikes, while collecting keys to unlock doors and treasure chests for point bonuses. In the browser emulator, use the Arrow Keys to move or crouch, Z to dash (B button), X to jump and hover (A button), and Enter to pause (Start).

Tips

  • Ki’s jump height depends on how long you hold the jump button; mastering her floaty, momentum-based jump is essential for clearing wide gaps.
  • Dashing lets you slip under low ceilings and past enemies quickly, but be careful of sliding into hazards since she takes a moment to stop.
  • If you run out of time, an invincible "Will-o’-the-Wisp" enemy will appear and chase you. Move to the exit immediately if time is low.
