IronSword: Wizards & Warriors II is a 1989 NES action-platformer developed by Rare and published by Acclaim — the direct sequel to 1987’s Wizards & Warriors. You play as Kuros, a knight tasked with defeating four elemental wizards (Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind) before confronting the returning villain Malkil in his mountain fortress.
How to play
Arrow keys move Kuros and let him climb ladders or enter doorways. Z swings the sword; X jumps. Press Enter to start or pause. Each of the four elemental worlds holds a set of magical items scattered through its levels — you must collect them all before the world’s boss wizard can be defeated. The boss chamber cannot be cleared without them. Finish all four worlds to unlock Malkil’s lair.
Tips
- Pick up food and potions when you find them rather than planning to grab them on the way back — most are one-time pickups and the health is worth stopping for.
- If a boss door stays locked, you are still missing a required item from that world. Comb the levels again before forcing the encounter.
- Some wall segments can be walked into to reach hidden rooms with extra items. If a passage looks like it ends too soon, try stepping directly into the wall.
