Gangster Alley is a 1982 action gallery shooter developed by Spectravision for the Atari 2600. Taking on the role of a sharpshooter, you are tasked with clearing out an apartment building infested with mobsters. The challenge lies in rapid target identificationโwhile gangsters pop up in the windows, innocent civilians will also occasionally appear, forcing you to check your fire under pressure.
How to play
The objective is to score points by shooting the mobsters while avoiding the civilians. You use the joystick to move your aim between the building’s windows, pressing the trigger to fire. In the browser, you can use the Arrow Keys to aim and the Spacebar to shoot. You have to be quick, as the enemies will eventually fire back, but reckless shooting will cost you lives if you hit a bystander.
Tips
- Pay close attention during the night phases. The screen goes completely dark, requiring you to memorize which windows the mobsters appeared in or rely on the brief flashes of light.
- Avoid holding down the fire button and sweeping across the screen. Firing blindly greatly increases the risk of hitting an innocent civilian as they pop up.
