Game description:

Super Breakout is a brick-breaking arcade game published by Atari, Inc. in 1979 as a direct follow-up to the original Breakout. Where Breakout gave you one ball and one unbroken wall, Super Breakout adds four selectable game variations that change how many balls are in play and how the bricks behave — making it a more tactical and replayable game on the Atari 2600.

How to Play

Move your paddle left and right to bounce the ball into the wall of bricks above. Clear bricks to score points; lose all your balls and the game ends. Use F11 (SELECT) to cycle through variations before pressing F12 (RESET) to start:

  • Super Breakout — extra balls drop from destroyed bricks and join the one already in play.
  • Double — two balls are in play simultaneously from the start.
  • Cavity — two balls are sealed inside the brick wall; breach the wall to release them.
  • Progressive — the brick wall slowly descends toward your paddle as you play.

Tips

  • The ball speeds up as play continues — use the slower early phase to punch a channel toward the top rows rather than clearing bricks at random.
  • Angle your shots off the side walls; a ball that breaks through to the top of the brick field bounces rapidly and clears whole rows on its own.
  • In Double and Cavity modes, keep the paddle near the centre so you can reach both balls — chasing one to a corner almost always costs you the other.
