Hyper Olympic is the 1985 NES port of Konami’s legendary arcade sports game, later released internationally as Track & Field. Players compete in a series of athletic events including the 100-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw, and high jump, relying on frantic button-mashing and precise timing to set new records.
How to Play
Your objective is to qualify for the next event by beating the minimum required time or distance. In the browser, the NES controls map to the Arrow Keys for the D-pad, Z and X for the A and B buttons, and Enter/Shift for Start and Select. Most events require rapidly alternating the Z and X buttons to build up speed, then pressing a directional key to jump or throw at the perfect angle.
Tips
- Angle is everything: In the long jump and javelin throw, aim for an angle as close to 45 degrees as possible to maximize your distance.
- Pace yourself: Don’t exhaust your hands on the early qualifying rounds; save your fastest mashing for when the qualification requirements become stricter in later loops.
