Play the unreleased prototype of Chip’s Challenge for the NES right in your browser. This 8-bit port brings the classic tile-based puzzle solving to the Nintendo Entertainment System. You take on the role of Chip McCallahan as he navigates intricate top-down levels, dodging hazards and figuring out clever ways to unlock the path forward.
How to play
Your objective in each level is to collect all the required computer chips to open the exit socket and proceed to the next stage. Along the way, you must push blocks, avoid deadly monsters, and collect colored keys to unlock matching doors. You will also find specialized boots that allow you to safely cross fire, water, ice, or force floors.
The NES D-pad is mapped to your Arrow Keys to move Chip around the grid. Use Enter to start the game.
Tips
- Look before you step: Some levels are mazes with hidden traps. Take a moment to observe monster patrol paths before committing to a route.
- Manage your keys: You often have to choose which doors to open. Don’t waste a key on a door if you aren’t sure it leads to progress.
- Use blocks wisely: Dirt blocks can be pushed into water to create bridges, or placed to block monsters from reaching you.
