Winter Games is a classic winter sports compilation originally developed by Epyx, with this specific 1987 Famicom (NES) port brought to Japan by Pony Canyon. You can represent your chosen country across a series of cold-weather events, aiming to take home the gold medal. While other versions of the game featured a wider array of events, this streamlined 8-bit release focuses on four specific disciplines: Hot Dog Aerials, Speed Skating, Figure Skating, and the Bobsled.
How to Play
Your objective is to achieve the best time or highest score across the four available events. You can practice individual sports or compete in a full tournament.
- D-pad: Steer in Bobsled, adjust rhythm in Speed Skating, and perform directional tricks in the air or on the ice. (Mapped to Arrow Keys)
- A / B Buttons: Jump or initiate tricks in Hot Dog Aerials, and execute specific spins or leaps in Figure Skating. (Mapped to Z / X)
- Start: Pause or begin an event. (Mapped to Enter)
- Select: Choose an event or game mode. (Mapped to Shift)
Tips
- Speed Skating Rhythm: Mashing the buttons will not help you win the Speed Skating event. Focus on a steady rhythm with the D-pad to match your skater’s leg movements for maximum acceleration.
- Hot Dog Aerials Landing: Timing is everything in the aerials. Complete your flips and spins early enough so you can align your skis straight down before hitting the ground, or you will crash.
- Bobsled Steering: In the Bobsled event, anticipate the turns. Steer gently into the curve to avoid scraping the walls and losing your speed.
