Game description:

Winter Games is a sports simulation title originally developed by Epyx and released for the NES in 1987. As part of Epyx’s classic “Games” series, it brings the challenge of the Winter Olympics to the 8-bit era. You can compete in multiple distinct winter sporting events, including the ski jump, bobsled, figure skating, and hot dog aerials, aiming for top scores and gold medals.

How to Play

You can choose to practice individual events, compete in a full tournament, or play against friends in multiplayer mode. Each sport requires different timing and mechanics. For the NES, standard controls involve using the D-pad to steer or build momentum, and the A and B buttons to jump, accelerate, or perform tricks. When playing in your browser, the NES D-pad maps to the arrow keys, A and B map to the Z and X keys, and Start and Select are mapped to Enter and Shift.

Tips

  • Hot Dog Aerials: While chaining flips and twists increases your score, a clean, upright landing is essential. A sloppy landing will heavily penalize your points.
  • Bobsled: Memorize the track’s curves and steer carefully to avoid scraping against the walls, which drastically slows down your time.
