Game description:

Warsong (originally released as Langrisser in Japan) is a classic tactical role-playing game developed by Nihon Computer System and released for the Sega Genesis in 1992. As the foundational first entry in the long-running Langrisser series, it combines the hero-centric progression of Fire Emblem with the large-scale troop deployment of Famicom Wars. Players guide Prince Garett of Baltia and his commanders through challenging grid-based battles to repel the Dalsis Empire, featuring iconic character art by Satoshi Urushihara.

How to Play

Your goal in each scenario is typically to defeat all enemy commanders or reach a specific objective on the map. Before each battle, you assign different troop classes to your commanders based on the upcoming terrain and enemy composition. Standard Sega Genesis controls apply: use the D-pad (arrow keys) to move the map cursor, the A or C buttons (Z or C on keyboard) to select units and confirm commands, and the B button (X on keyboard) to cancel or view unit ranges.

Tips

  • Keep your hired troops within their commander’s “command radius” to receive significant offensive and defensive stat bonuses during combat.
  • Pay close attention to the unit triangle: infantry beats pikemen, pikemen beat cavalry, and cavalry beats infantry.
  • If an enemy commander is defeated, all of their attached troops instantly vanish from the map. Target leaders to quickly thin out overwhelming forces, but remember you earn more experience by defeating their troops first.
