Released by Capcom in 1989, Sweet Home is a groundbreaking survival horror RPG for the NES that famously served as the direct inspiration for Resident Evil. You control a five-person documentary crew trapped inside the haunted Mamiya mansion, navigating deadly traps, solving puzzles, and fighting monsters in turn-based combat to uncover the tragic history of Lady Mamiya.
How to Play
Each of your five characters has a unique, essential itemโlike Akiko’s medkit or Taro’s cameraโmeaning permadeath has severe consequences; if a character dies, they are gone for good and you must find a makeshift replacement item to progress. You can split the party to explore different areas, but keeping them together makes random encounters much safer. The default browser controls are the Arrow Keys for movement, X for A (confirm/action), Z for B (cancel), Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Use the “Call” command in combat to summon other party members to the fight if they are in the same room.
- Inventory space is incredibly limited. Drop items you do not currently need in a central, memorable room (like the main hall) so you can retrieve them later.
- Avoid using healing items on minor damage, as healing items are scarce and finite.
