Game description:

Super Monaco GP is a premier Formula One racing simulator released by Sega for the Genesis in 1990. Widely regarded as one of the best 16-bit racing titles of its era, it puts players behind the wheel to compete in an extensive World Championship mode based on the 1989/90 F1 season, alongside a standard arcade mode. The game is notable for its rear-view mirror feature and the ability to be drafted by other cars.

How to Play

In the World Championship mode, your objective is to rise through the ranks of rival teams by outperforming their drivers, eventually earning a seat at the top-tier team. Steer using the arrow keys, accelerate and brake using the Genesis A/B/C buttons (mapped to Z, X, and C on your keyboard), and press Enter to start or pause. Some cars use manual transmissions, which require shifting up and down manually.

Tips

  • When defending your position, use the rear-view mirror (a rare feature at the time) to block trailing cars from slipstreaming past you.
  • During the championship mode, target rivals driving slightly faster cars; beating them will usually prompt an offer to take their seat.
  • Don’t neglect braking before sharp corners. The game punishes aggressive speed through tight turns by throwing you off the track.
