Judge Dredd is a 1995 action platformer for the Sega Genesis published by Acclaim Entertainment, based on the dystopian sci-fi film of the same name. You patrol the grim, sprawling levels of Mega-City One as the titular Street Judge, fulfilling mission objectives that range from destroying illegal weapons caches to rescuing hostages. It blends traditional run-and-gun combat with the need to constantly switch weapon types and adapt to different environmental hazards.
How to Play
Your primary objective in each level is to complete a specific set of missionsโsuch as destroying contraband or disabling computersโbefore reaching the exit. You are armed with the Lawgiver, a versatile firearm that can swap between multiple ammunition types. Movement and aiming are handled with the directional pad (arrow keys). Use the B button (X key) to fire your Lawgiver, C (Z key) to jump, and A (S key) for melee attacks or throwing grenades. The Mode button (Shift) cycles through your available ammunition types, and Start (Enter) pauses the action to review your current objectives.
Tips
- Prioritise arrests: When an enemy drops their weapon and surrenders or cowers, walk up to them and press Up to arrest them. This is often required for secondary objectives and improves your rating.
- Manage your ammo: Special ammunition like High Explosive and Armor Piercing rounds are limited. Save your most powerful shots for bosses and heavily armored foes.
- Use ricochet rounds: The Ricochet ammo is invaluable for safely taking out enemies positioned around corners or below ledges without exposing yourself to return fire.
