Game description:

Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan), widely known to international audiences as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, is a 1988 platformer originally developed by Nintendo. This localized NES version presents the notoriously challenging sequel exactly as Japanese players experienced it. Built on the engine of the original classic, it introduces game-changing elements like wind mechanics, backwards warp zones, and the treacherous Poison Mushroom.

How to Play

Navigate Mario or Luigi through increasingly difficult worlds to rescue Princess Toadstool. Use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to jump, X to sprint or shoot fireballs, and Enter to start. Unlike the first game, the brothers have different physics: Mario is balanced, while Luigi jumps much higher but struggles to stop his momentum.

Tips

  • Beware the Poison Mushroom: It has a darker pattern than a regular Super Mushroom and will hurt you on contact.
  • Ride the Wind: In later levels, use the periodic wind gusts to carry your jumps across incredibly wide gaps.
  • Mind the Warp Zones: Some warp pipes will actively send you backwards to earlier worlds, so enter them with caution.
