Super Mario Bros. 2 is a classic 1988 platformer released for the NES that radically shifts the mechanics of the series. Instead of simply stomping on foes, players navigate the dream world of Subcon by plucking vegetables and picking up enemies to hurl as weapons. The game features four playable characters—Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool—each offering completely unique playstyles, such as Luigi’s prolonged flutter jump and the Princess’s ability to float in mid-air.

Your goal is to travel through seven worlds to defeat the tyrannical Wart and free the dream realm. In the browser, the standard NES controls apply: use the arrow keys to move, climb, and duck. Tips:

• Character selection makes a huge difference; Toad is the fastest digger for sand levels, while the Princess makes tricky precision jumps much safer.
• To defeat Birdo at the end of a level, wait for her to shoot an egg, jump to catch it in mid-air, and throw it back.
• Look for potions and throw them in safe spots to create doors to Subspace, where you can safely collect coins and increase your maximum health with mushrooms.
