Game description:

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is a classic action flight game developed by Factor 5 and LucasArts, released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. Set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, players take on the role of Luke Skywalker leading the elite Rogue Squadron. The game features fast-paced arcade-style dogfights and objective-based missions across various planets, putting players in the cockpits of iconic craft like the X-wing, A-wing, and Snowspeeder.

How to Play

Your objective is to complete various mission goals, such as escorting convoys, destroying Imperial installations, and engaging in aerial combat against TIE fighters and AT-AT walkers. For browser-based Nintendo 64 emulation, default controls typically map the analog stick to the arrow keys, the A and B buttons to X and C, the Start button to Enter, and the Z-trigger to the Spacebar or Shift key. Mastering the use of the brake to execute tight turns and the accelerator to close distances is crucial for dogfighting.

Tips

  • Use your craft’s targeting computer to identify critical objectives and enemies, especially when flying in low visibility environments.
  • When facing AT-AT walkers in a Snowspeeder, you must use your tow cable to trip them, as standard blast weapons will not penetrate their heavy armor. Wrap the cable around their legs by flying in tight circles.
  • Secondary weapons like proton torpedoes are limited but extremely powerful. Save them for heavily armored targets like shield generators and AT-STs rather than wasting them on standard TIE fighters.
