Sky Kid is a unique 1987 horizontal scrolling shooter originally developed by Namco. Unusually for the genre, the screen scrolls from right to left as you pilot a cartoon biplane through a gauntlet of anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighters. It stands out for its colourful art style and a distinctive loop-the-loop mechanic that adds depth to the traditional shoot 'em up formula.
How to Play
Your objective in each stage is to survive the dogfight, collect a bomb from the ground, and drop it on the primary enemy target before landing safely on the runway. Steer your biplane using the arrow keys (D-pad). Press Z to fire your machine gun, and press X to perform an evasive loop. Press Enter to start.
Tips
- Master the loop: Performing a loop-the-loop makes your plane temporarily invincible. Use it to dodge unavoidable enemy fire or to get behind a fighter that is tailing you.
- Crash recovery: If you take a hit, your plane will begin spiraling downward. You can often recover by rapidly mashing the loop button (X), allowing you to pull out of the dive just before hitting the ground.
- Timing the bomb: You only get one chance to bomb the main target per stage. Line up your drop carefully, as a successful hit awards a massive point bonus.
