Game description:

King of Kings is a turn-based strategy game developed by Atlus and published by Namco for the NES in 1988. Standing apart from traditional military warfare games of its era, it shifts the focus to a medieval fantasy setting where you command a king attempting to unify the land. You recruit various mythical units, including knights, griffons, dragons, and goblins, to capture enemy castles and ultimately defeat the rival kings on hex-based battlefields.

How to play

Your objective is to eliminate the enemy king while protecting your own. Capture towns and castles to increase your income, which allows you to summon stronger units to the battlefield. The default NES controls apply: use the D-pad to navigate the hex grid, Z and X (mapped to A and B) to select units, attack, or access the menu, and Enter/Shift for Start and Select in the browser emulator.

Tips

  • Pay attention to unit mobility and terrain. Flying units like griffons can cross mountains easily, while ground troops are heavily restricted by rough terrain.
  • Keep your king protected but don’t leave him completely idle. He is a powerful unit, but losing him results in an instant game over, so station him in a castle to regenerate health and fend off incoming attackers.
