Bump ‘N’ Jump is a top-down scrolling racer from Data East, released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. You drive through lanes of oncoming traffic using two tools: slam rival cars into the roadside barriers, and jump to clear the rivers that cut across your path. The game earns its name from both moves, and you need to master them equally to survive.
How to play
Steer with the arrow keys. Press Spacebar to jump — essential for clearing rivers; miss the window and it costs you a life. Drive alongside a rival and steer into them to bump them off the road. Keep your speed up: fall too far behind the pack and the game ends that run too. Use Del for a brief burst when you need to close ground quickly.

Tips
- Plan river jumps early. The gaps arrive fast, and you need to be positioned correctly before you reach them — not while you are over them.
- Bump from the side. Pulling alongside a rival and nudging them laterally sends them off cleanly; trying to push from behind tends to slow you both down instead.
- Hold the centre of the road when traffic is heavy. It gives you room to react in either direction as cars pile up.
