Akumajou Special – Boku Dracula-kun is a classic 1990 action-platformer for the NES. Developed by Konami, this lighthearted spin-off of the Castlevania series stars a young, comical version of Dracula on a quest to defeat the evil demon Galamoth. Instead of a whip, you rely on fireballs and a variety of magical spells earned by defeating bosses across colourful, parody-filled stages.
How to Play
Guide Kid Dracula through each stage, defeating enemies and conquering bosses to learn new magic spells. Controls use the standard NES layout, mapped to your keyboard: move with the Arrow keys, jump with X, and attack with Z. Press Enter to pause the game, and use Shift to cycle through your available magic spells once unlocked.
Tips
- Charge your attack: Hold the attack button to charge a larger, more powerful fireball. Once you unlock new spells like the Homing Bat or Freeze attack, charging is required to cast them.
- Master the Bat form: The bat transformation spell is essential for crossing large gaps and reaching hidden areas, but keep an eye on your magic meter as it drains quickly while in use.
- Minigame lives: Between stages, you can participate in short minigames to earn extra lives using the coins you collected during the level. Don’t skip them, as later stages become quite challenging!
