Air Buster is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Kaneko and released for the Sega Genesis in 1990. Players take control of the Blaster spacecraft to fight off an alien invasion across multiple intense, varied stages. The game is notable for its fast-paced action, sharp 16-bit graphics, and the challenging mechanic of floating weapon power-ups that cycle as you shoot them.
How to Play
The core objective is to survive dense enemy waves and defeat the massive bosses at the end of each stage. Survival depends heavily on quick maneuvering and screen positioning. The original Genesis controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to move, and S, X, and Z for the A, B, and C action buttons. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Mode.
Tips
- Waves arrive in set formations, so learning where enemies will spawn and positioning yourself in advance is much safer than reacting at the last second.
- Focus your eyes on your ship and threading the gaps in enemy fire rather than trying to track every enemy you want to shoot.
- Power-ups cycle through different weapon types when shot. Time your pickups carefully to get the weapon that best suits the current situation.
