Dig Dug is the classic arcade maze game, originally developed by Namco and brought to the NES and Famicom Disk System in 1985. You play as Taizo Hori, tunneling deep into the earth to clear out waves of subterranean monsters. The gameplay relies on a mix of strategic digging to control enemy movement and using your air pump to defeat the goggle-wearing Pookas and fire-breathing Fygars.
How to play
Your goal in each stage is to eliminate all enemies, either by inflating them until they burst or crushing them under falling rocks. Using the default browser controls for the NES, move and dig in all four directions with the arrow keys, and press Z or X to use your air pump. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Fygars (the green dragons) are worth more points if you defeat them from the side, but be carefulโthey can only breathe fire horizontally.
- Dropping a single rock on multiple enemies at once yields massive bonus points and is key to setting high scores.
- You can stun an enemy by pumping them up just once or twice, allowing you to safely walk past them while they slowly deflate.
