Dragon Quest IV: Michibikareshi Monotachi (also known as Chapters of the Chosen) is a landmark role-playing game developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix for the NES in 1990. The game broke new ground in the RPG genre with its unique five-chapter structure, introducing different main characters in the first four chapters before they all unite under the Hero to save the world in the final act.
How to Play
Your objective is to guide each character through their individual chapter, gathering experience and completing quests before coming together to defeat the ruler of evil, Psaro. As an NES game played in the browser, use the Arrow Keys to navigate the world and menus. Press Z (A button) to confirm actions, talk to NPCs, or search, and X (B button) to cancel or back out of menus. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- In Torneko’s (Taloon’s) chapter, take time to work in the weapon shop to earn extra gold early on, as monsters drop less gold in his merchant-focused gameplay.
- Don’t forget to configure the “Tactics” menu in Chapter 5. Since you only control the Hero directly, setting the right AI behavior for your party members is essential for surviving tough boss fights.
