Game description:

Mega Man X – Hard Type is a renowned ROM hack of Capcom’s classic 1993 Super Nintendo action-platformer, designed by Hart-Hunt for veteran players who want a punishing challenge. This isn’t just a simple stat tweak; the hack completely redesigns every level and boss arena from scratch, enhances enemy AI to be faster and more responsive, and rebalances weapon damage. To offset the brutal difficulty, you are given infinite lives and access to the Dash ability immediately after the intro stage, keeping the focus entirely on skill and persistence.

How to Play

Your objective is to defeat the eight Maverick bosses, absorb their weapons, and stop Sigma. The default SNES controls in the browser are the arrow keys to move, Z to jump, X to shoot or charge your buster, and A or S to cycle through your special weapons. You can dash by double-tapping a direction or by pressing the C key (mapped to the A button on the SNES pad). Press Enter to start the game or pause to check your death counter.

Tips

  • Rethink Your Upgrades: The Body armor upgrade has been nerfed to only provide a 25% damage reduction, meaning you cannot face-tank boss attacks like in the original game. Focus entirely on evasion and pattern memorization.
  • Exploit the Early Dash: You are granted the Dash boots immediately after the intro stage. Use them constantly for mobility and to extend your jump distance right from the start of your first Maverick stage.
  • Weapon Rebalance: Both enemy HP and Maverick weapons have been rebalanced. If a boss strategy from the vanilla game isn’t working, experiment with different weapons, as their damage output and speed properties have changed.
