Developed by Rare and released for the SNES in 1995, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest is a masterclass in 16-bit platforming. With Donkey Kong captured by Kaptain K. Rool, players take control of Diddy Kong and newcomer Dixie Kong as they traverse the pirate-themed Crocodile Isle. The game builds upon its predecessor with tighter mechanics, stunning pre-rendered graphics, and an iconic, atmospheric soundtrack, delivering one of the most challenging and rewarding action-platformers on the console.
How to Play
Your goal is to navigate through various themed worlds to rescue Donkey Kong, collecting bananas, DK coins, and hidden Kremkoins along the way. You can tag between the two Kongs dynamically: Diddy is faster and uses a quick cartwheel attack, while Dixie’s ponytail spin allows her to glide gracefully over large gaps. Utilize animal buddies like Rambi the Rhino and Squawks the Parrot to overcome specific stage hazards.

Tips
- Master Dixie’s Glide: Dixie’s helicopter spin (hold the run button in mid-air) is invaluable for bypassing difficult platforming sections and correcting poorly timed jumps. Keep her active in treacherous areas.
- Team Up for Secrets: You can pick up and throw your partner to reach high areas. This is often the only way to reach elevated bonus barrels or DK coins when you don’t have an animal buddy.
- Look for Weak Walls: Many hidden bonus rooms are tucked away behind breakable walls. Look for suspicious flat surfaces and use a barrel or Rambi’s charge to bust them open.
