Columns is a 1990 falling-block puzzle game developed by SEGA Enterprises for the SNES. You arrange descending columns of colored jewels to create matches of three or more in a row, clearing them from the board to survive as long as possible before the screen fills up.
How to play
The objective is to score points by matching identical jewels vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. You can move the falling columns left or right, and cycle the order of the three gems within the column before they land.

Tips
- Plan for chain reactions: setting up gems so that clearing one group causes another to fall into a match will earn you significantly more points.
- Keep the board flat: try to avoid building tall, uneven stacks that limit your time to react to the falling columns.
- Diagonal matches are just as valid as vertical and horizontal ones, so keep an eye out for diagonal opportunities when placing gems.
