Developed by id Software and released in 1992, Wolfenstein 3D is the landmark first-person shooter that established the genre. You play as Allied spy B.J. Blazkowicz, blasting your way through a fortress filled with enemy soldiers and secret rooms. The Super Nintendo port is famous for its significant censorship to meet Nintendo’s strict family-friendly guidelines of the era, replacing attack dogs with giant rats, changing blood to sweat, and removing all political imagery.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate the maze-like levels of the castle, locate the exit elevator on each floor, and survive against heavily armed guards and bosses. The SNES version includes a map feature to help you navigate the sprawling floors.
- Movement: Arrow Keys (โโโโ)
- Fire Weapon: X
- Open Doors / Action: Z
- Strafe: Q and E
- Pause / Menu: Enter
Tips
- Check the walls for hidden passagesโpressing the action button against suspicious walls often reveals secret rooms full of health, ammo, and treasure.
- Conserve your ammunition by using the knife against lone, weak guards, and save your heavier weapons for bosses or large groups of enemies.
- Use the strafe buttons to safely peek around corners and dodge enemy fire.
