Ultraman: Towards the Future is a 1991 2D fighting game developed by Bandai for the SNES. Based on the Japanese live-action television series, players take on the role of the giant hero Ultraman as he battles a series of enormous Kaiju to protect the Earth. Unlike typical fighting games of the era, defeating your opponent requires more than just wearing down their health bar; you must carefully manage your energy to deliver a decisive finishing blow.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat a succession of giant monsters within a strict three-minute time limit, matching Ultraman’s canonical power constraints. Standard SNES controls apply: the D-pad moves your character and controls your jumps, while the face buttons handle your punches, kicks, and special beam attacks. In the browser emulator, these are mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys for movement, with Z, X, A, and S serving as your action buttons.
Tips for Survival
- The Finishing Blow: Depleting a monster’s health is only the first step. Once the word “FINISH” appears on screen, you must hit them with your level four attack, the Specium Ray, before they regenerate their health.
- Manage Your Energy: Keep a close eye on the energy gauge at the bottom of the screen. Your special beam attacks require energy to use, and you cannot unleash the Specium Ray unless the gauge is fully charged.
- Use Your Shield: Ultraman can project a barrier to deflect projectile attacks. Timing this correctly is essential against later Kaiju who rely heavily on ranged attacks.
