Game description:

Ultraman: Kaijuu Teikoku no Gyakushuu is a side-scrolling action platformer released by Bandai for the Famicom Disk System in 1987. Rather than starting out as a giant superhero, you spend most of the game playing as the fragile human agent Hayata, navigating treacherous levels armed only with a simple raygun. By defeating enemies to collect power, you can eventually use the Beta Capsule to transform into Ultraman, gaining the immense strength and iconic beam attacks needed to wrestle the massive kaiju waiting at the end of each stage.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the side-scrolling stages as Hayata, gather enough energy to transform, and defeat the boss monsters before your three-minute Color Timer runs out. Since this is an NES/Famicom title, move using the D-pad (mapped to your browser’s arrow keys). Press the A button (typically X) to jump, and the B button (typically Z) to fire Hayata’s raygun or use Ultraman’s attacks. Use the Start button (Enter) to pause the game.

Tips

  • Hayata dies in a single hit from any enemy or hazard. Play defensively during the platforming sections and prioritize learning enemy spawn patterns over rushing forward.
  • Do not transform too early. Your time as Ultraman is strictly limited, so it is best to trigger the transformation right before a major kaiju encounter so you do not run out of energy mid-fight.
  • If you manage to clear all 11 stages, the game loops into a harder second quest where you play as Dan Moroboshi, who transforms into Ultra Seven.
