Tooyama no Kinsan Space Chou – Mr. Gold is a 1988 graphical text adventure released by Toei Animation for the Famicom Disk System (playable here as an NES title). Based on the Samurai Gold anime OVA, the game is a bizarre and brilliant sci-fi adaptation of the classic Japanese historical character Tooyama Kagemoto, reimagining him as a hero fighting crime across space colonies controlled by a computer system called EDO.
As a traditional Japanese adventure game, gameplay revolves around a menu-driven interface where you select commands to move between locations, talk to characters, and investigate objects. Note: The game is entirely in Japanese and requires a strong understanding of the language to progress. Use the directional keys to navigate menus, Z (mapped to the A button) to confirm actions, and X (mapped to the B button) to cancel or go back.
If you find yourself stuck, try revisiting previous locations and talking to characters multiple times, as new dialogue options or events may trigger after certain story conditions are met.
