Game description:

Developed by H2O Entertainment, Tetrisphere is a unique 3D puzzle game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. Instead of the traditional falling-block mechanics, the action takes place on the surface of a sphere where you match blocks by shape and color to trigger chain reactions, clearing away layers to eventually reach the core.

How to Play

Your goal is to rescue the robots trapped inside the sphere by digging through its outer layers. You do this by dropping pieces onto the playfield to match them with existing blocks of the same shape and color. When you place a piece correctly, the matching blocks slide and vanish. Use the D-pad or Analog Stick to move your cursor around the sphere, the C-buttons to rotate your piece, and the A button to drop it.

Tips

  • Plan for chain reactions: Dropping a piece onto a matching block that touches other blocks of the same color triggers a combo, which strips away much more of the sphere’s surface than a simple match.
  • Use the drop shadow: The spherical perspective can be tricky to navigate. Always check the drop shadow to ensure your piece lands exactly where you intend.
  • Slide your pieces: You can slide a dropped piece for a brief moment before it locks into place, allowing you to slip it into tight spots to complete a match.
