Game description:

Developed and published by Nintendo in 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time brought the legendary action-adventure series into 3D for the Nintendo 64. As Link, you travel across the kingdom of Hyrule and through time itself to stop Ganondorf from claiming the Triforce. It combines exploration, puzzle-solving in intricately designed dungeons, and engaging real-time combat.

How to play

Your objective is to explore Hyrule, clear elemental dungeons, and gather the Spiritual Stones and Medallions. Combat and puzzle-solving rely heavily on “Z-targeting,” which locks the camera onto enemies or objects to help you maneuver. In the browser emulator, movement is generally mapped to the arrow keys, with X and Z functioning as the N64’s A and B buttons. The C-buttonsโ€”crucial for using your equipped items and playing the Ocarinaโ€”are typically mapped to W, A, S, and D, while Shift handles Z-targeting and Enter pauses the game.

Tips

  • Listen to Navi: While she can be persistent, your fairy companion’s prompts (press the C-up button) often provide essential hints for enemy weaknesses or puzzle solutions when you are stuck.
  • Roll to move faster: Repeatedly pressing the A button while running makes Link perform a forward roll, which is slightly faster than his standard running speed and helpful for crossing Hyrule Field.
  • Catch bugs and fairies: Keep a few empty bottles handy. You can catch fairies at fountains to automatically revive you if you fall in battle, or catch bugs to drop into soft soil patches to unearth Gold Skulltulas.
