T2: The Arcade Game is Probe Software’s 1994 Sega Genesis conversion of Midway’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day light-gun shooter, published by Arena Entertainment and renamed for home platforms to avoid clashing with the separate T2 platform game. It’s an on-rails shooter across seven stages — the first four set during the 2029 future war against Skynet’s machines, the last three replaying key scenes from the film’s 1990s story — built for Sega’s Menacer light gun but fully playable with a regular control pad.
How to Play
The screen scrolls forward on its own; your only job is aiming and shooting. Ammo crates scattered through each stage cycle you through machine gun, shotgun, rocket, and grenade-launcher pickups, so clear them out rather than hoarding one weapon. Humans, and John Connor specifically, are marked “do not shoot” — hitting one costs you heavily, and letting John die during stages 3, 6, or 7 forces you to replay that stage from the start. Because the Genesis has no scaling hardware, oncoming Terminators are drawn at several fixed sizes as they close in rather than growing smoothly, one of the more visible compromises versus the arcade original.
- Move reticle: Arrow keys
- Fire: S / X / Z (Genesis A/B/C)
- Start / Pause: Enter
Tips
- Mentally separate the “do not shoot” targets — civilians and John Connor — from the enemies before you spray; a stray hit on them costs more than missing a Terminator.
- Don’t let ammo crates go unclaimed. Running dry on rockets or the grenade launcher forces you back onto the weaker machine gun against the toughest late-stage machines.
- Stages 3, 6, and 7 hinge on keeping John Connor alive — treat those as escort missions first and a shooting gallery second.
