Super Lode Runner is a 1987 puzzle-platformer developed by Irem for the Famicom Disk System (playable here as an NES title). Rather than a simple port of the original computer game, this version compiles 55 challenging stages selected from Irem’s arcade releases. It also introduces a two-player cooperative “Pair” mode with 15 dedicated levels. The core objective remains intact: you must outsmart robotic guards to collect all the gold in each stage and reach the exit ladder at the top of the screen.
How to Play
Your character cannot jump. Instead, you must rely on climbing ladders, shimmying across ropes, and your blaster, which temporarily destroys brick floors to trap enemies. Once all the gold is collected, the escape ladder appears.
- Movement: Arrow Keys (D-pad) to run, climb, or drop from ropes
- Dig Left: Z key (B Button)
- Dig Right: X key (A Button)
- Start / Pause: Enter key
Tips
- Enemies will pick up gold pieces if they walk over them. To get the gold back, you must dig a hole and trap the enemy; they will drop the gold as they fall in.
- You can safely fall any distance without taking damage. Use this to drop through the holes you dig to access lower areas quickly.
- Holes fill back up after a few seconds. If a guard is stuck in a hole when it fills, they will respawn at the top of the level. Be careful not to trap yourself!
