Game description:

Super Lode Runner is a puzzle-platformer developed by Irem and released for the NES in 1987. Players navigate complex, multi-tiered stages to collect scattered gold while avoiding pursuing enemies. Instead of jumping, the game emphasizes strategy and quick thinking, giving you the ability to dig temporary holes to trap foes or drop down to lower platforms.

How to Play

Your objective is to collect every piece of gold on the screen to reveal the ladder leading to the next stage. You cannot jump. Use the arrow keys to run, climb ladders, and traverse hand-over-hand across ropes. Press Z and X (the NES A and B buttons) to dig holes into brick floors to your left or right.

Tips

  • Holes fill back in after a few seconds. If an enemy is trapped in a hole when it closes, they are eliminated and will respawn at the top of the level.
  • You can safely walk across the heads of enemies who are temporarily trapped in holes to bridge wide gaps.
  • Think ahead before digging. It is easy to trap yourself in a pit with no escape, which will force you to restart the stage.
