Developed by Culture Brain and released for the Super Famicom in 1991, Super Chinese World is an inventive blend of traditional role-playing and side-scrolling beat ’em up action. Better known to western audiences by its localized title, Super Ninja Boy, this Japanese release follows martial artists Jack and Ryu as they explore towns, upgrade their gear, and navigate a world map. However, instead of menu-based battles, random encounters trigger real-time brawls where you must punch, kick, and jump your way through waves of enemies.
How to Play
Your goal is to defeat the evil Rub-A-Doc and save Chinaland by traveling across the overworld, completing quests, and surviving action-packed combat encounters.
- Move: Arrow Keys (D-pad)
- Jump: X (SNES A button)
- Punch / Interact: Z (SNES B button)
- Use Item / Special: S (SNES Y button)
- Pause / Menu: Enter (Start)
Tips
- Grind early: Since battles play out like a brawler, it can be easy to get overwhelmed if your stats are too low. Spend some time leveling up near the first town before venturing too far.
- Keep moving in combat: Enemies will try to surround you. Use jump kicks to escape tight crowds and avoid getting sandwiched between attackers.
